Markets plunge on widened fiscal deficit row

Nifty closed over 1% lower on Thursday after India’s fiscal deficit at the end of October hit 96.1% of the budget estimate for the fiscal year ending in March 2018. The fiscal deficit was Rs 5.25 trillion during April-October of 2017-18. Market participants are also cautious ahead of second-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) data.

 

On the sectoral front, AUTO, FMCG, IT, MEDIA, METAL, PHARMA and REALTY sectors outperformed the Nifty 50 while BANK NIFTY and BFSI underperformed. On the stock front, GAIL, BOSCH, BAJAJ-AUTO, NTPC and HINDPETRO were the major gainers for the day whereas UPL, HINDALCO, KOTAKBANK, AXISBANK and RELIANCE were the major losers in the index. Advance and Decline Ratio of the Nifty 50 stood at 11:39.

 

On the global front, Asian markets closed lower as tech shares mirrored the move on Wall Street. While writing this, Europe markets were mixed ahead of the OPEC meeting. The OPEC ministers and allied producers are meeting in Vienna, Austria today to decide on oil output policy.

 

Nifty has immediate support around 10175 levels and next support is at 10135 levels. Immediate resistance is around 10280 and next resistance is around 10345 levels.

 

News On Board

 

Mahindra Finance raises Rs 1,055 crore on preferential basis:

Mahindra Finance has received an approval for allotment of 2, 50, 00,000 equity shares of face value Rs 2 each to M&M, the holding company, at the Issue Price of Rs 422 per equity share, aggregating to Rs 1,055 crore. Pursuant to this allotment, the paid-up share capital of the company stands increased from 56, 87, 64,960 equity shares to 59,37,64,960 equity shares and the percentage shareholding of M&M stands increased from 51.20% to 53.25%.

SSWL bags export order for 6,000 truck wheels:

Steel Strips Wheels (SSWL) has bagged fresh exports order for its truck wheels plant in Chennai. The total order size is close to 6,000 truck wheels that is to be supplied over a period of 12 months. Supplies will begin from December 2017.The company is in advanced stage of discussions to finalize long term contracts with multiple European customers and expects to close them by early next year. It has already marked its entry in the high potential truck and trailer steel wheels market in EU and aims to strengthen it in near future.

Panacea Biotec receives USFDA acceptance for Paclitaxel particles:

Panacea Biotec, India's highly progressive research based pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, announced that its abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) submitted under section 505(j) of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) for Paclitaxel Protein Bound Particles for injectable suspension, 100mg/vial has been accepted for filing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

·         IL&FS Transportation Networks surged over 5% after the arbitral tribunal directed the National Highways Authority of India to pay Rs 547.96 crore to the company's arm.

 

·         Mukta Arts spurted over 13% after the company reported consolidated net profit of Rs 9.40 crore in Q2 September 2017 compared to net loss of Rs 4.90 crore in Q2 September 2016.

 

·         Safari Industries (India) rose over 5% after the net profit surged 265.6% to Rs 3.51 crore on 19.2% rise in net sales to Rs 88.16 crore in Q2 September 2017 over Q2 September 2016.

 

·         Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri fell over 10% after the net profit fell 89.9% to Rs 0.80 crore on 26.8% decline in net sales to Rs 326.02 crore in Q2 September 2017 over Q2 September 2016.

 

·         Tara Jewels slumped over 6% after the company reported net loss of Rs 166.79 crore in Q2 September 2017 compared to net profit of Rs 0.63 crore in Q2 September 2016.
